Thailand 21st June 2012

We wanted to pass along this story of a recent trip Nicole’s Uncle Pete took to Thailand where he helped a family, primarily using monies raised at Nicole’s Benefit Fiesta. For only $2000, Pete was able to accomplish so much.

We wanted everyone to know about the dramatic impact your efforts have had in helping this family and thank you again for all your help.

Hayati Children’s Foundation

We are proud to have partnered in fundraising efforts with the Hayati Children’s Foundation whose goal is to provide direction, funds and volunteer support to orphanages in developing countries throughout the world. Hayati’s experience/resources and direct engagement with the orphanages they support is critical to ensure proper use and maximum benefit of donated funds in an area of philanthropy unfortunately targeted by unscrupulous persons.  Hayati is our major charitable sponsor and we are proud to have donated close to $5,000 to support their efforts. Please visit their website for further details on this deserving charity.

Alexander’s Quest – Little Wishes for Little Warriors

We recently made a donation to an organization started in memory of Alexander Edwin Brown who died of brain cancer on the 23rd of October 2010 at only 2 years old. David had met Alexander’s Dad by chance and was touched by his efforts to ensure his son’s short life is not forgotten and endeavors to help and support other kids like him. Their Mission (see their website for further details) is:

  • To grant life experiences to children who are terminally ill with cancer and cancer related illnesses.
  • To bring awareness to childhood cancer and childhood brain tumours.
  • To raise awareness on the importance of brain tumour/tissue donation.
  • To make donations to help fund childhood brain tumour research.

Grant Stewart Memorial Trust Fund

A donation was made to the Education Trust Fund for Grant Stewarts’s two young children. Grant was a friend and fellow broomball player to both Nicole’s brother Darren and stepdad Doug as well as many supporters of the Foundation. This will help to provide a post secondary education for the children.

Nicole’s Nana (Joan Stonebanks) came across a couple of terrific ideas:

Kona AfricaBike Project!

We bought two bikes and Kona donates the third free.

Project Warmth

Nana shopped for blankets to donate (both for adults and children) and delivered them to Project Warmth.

Backpacks for the Calgary Drop Inn Centre

A friend and coworker of Karen’s Danielle Payne and her mom Joyce have been assembling backpacks filled with essential day to day necessities for the Drop Inn Centre. Definitely a cause that Nicole would have approved of. This year they filled 70 backpacks and we are happy to help them in their endeavor.

Nicole Jennifer Creig Memorial Scholarship at ACAD

And of course the “Nicole Jennifer Creig Memorial Scholarship” at the Alberta College of Art and Design was fully funded in only nine short months following Nicole’s death. The scholarship provides $1000 per year to a deserving 4th year photography student. This is an amazing accomplishment and we thank everyone sincerely.
